Finding Balance in Life

Finding Balance in Life

Sometimes balancing the factors that create healthy and stable weight seem so elusive and random and other times they come together naturally. How much water do I need to keep my body healthy and working optimally? What’s the right number of calories to consume? Am I burning too much in my workout regimen or should I switch to a different exercise program today? These were some questions I found myself contemplating as I rode my bike this morning. As I thought about the many elements of balanced living and weight maintenance I practice, I recalled an important lesson I learned about balance when I re-discovered bike riding as an adult.

After many years of living a sedentary lifestyle apart from occasional visits to the gym or walking on my treadmill at home, I became motivated to take up recreational bike riding. My husband and I invested in a pair of road bikes and the appropriate safety gear. I was excited about the prospect of burning calories while enjoying rides around our neighborhood lake and even fantasized about car trips towing our bikes along to picturesque destinations. However, when I took delivery of my new bike, I was faced with the reality that I had not ridden a bike in about 30 years. A bit of panic set in as my mind raced to thoughts of falling off the bike, feeling clumsy on the seat, and anticipating going at a slower pace than other riders.

This is when my intuition took over and the principles of Intuitive Weight Loss™ kicked into gear: I have all the wisdom I need within me. I became inner guided and reconnected with the voice of my soul—my intuition. As my mentor Dorie McCubbrey writes in her book How Much Does Your Soul Weigh? “Solving weight problems requires a shift from a weight conscious “self” as a world/mind/body to a spiritually conscious “Self” as a soul/mind/body. The soul as one’s core essence is the primary focus. An intuitive process of Self-care is followed, letting the soul guide the way to the Freedom point of both mental and body weight. The body responds to an inner wisdom with health and balance; the body becomes free of its “mental weight problem” and the body is freed of its “body weight problem.” The soul becomes nourished, the mind enlightened, and the body is at its Freedom point. The Self is whole, healthy and complete.”

So, today when I mount my bike, I take a moment to connect with my soul, I strap on my bicycle helmet and riding gloves, and I listen to my gut. I start off a little cautious at first, but soon my intuition kicks in and the freedom of experiencing a mind body connection of rhythm, speed, and balance propels me on my bike ride. Today I also enjoy the freedom from the burden of the weight loss games by living in balance with food, intentional movement and healthy lifestyle choices. There are many examples of balance in everyday life when we are open to receiving them. If you are interested in the Intuitive Weight Loss™ approach to food and diet freedom, I hope you will connect with me now!
